Backstreet’s Back

   Posted by: Halley    in UNIsA

So, yes, I have always been a fan of BSB.  I mean they don’t compare to NSYNC, but still I like them.  I never imagined they would help me in a conversation on a college campus in Italy about God though, but it happened!  So for all you BSB haters out there, it might be time to give them a chance.

So a girl we have been meeting with, Giovanna, LOVES the Backstreet Boys.  It was one of the first things she ever told us about herself.  Luckily, one of the boyz, Brian Littrel, has gone on to record some Christian music.  You might have heard a few of his tunes.  One of my favs, By His Wounds, which he did with 2 other artists, and Giovanna’s fav which is “In Christ Alone.”  She let me listen to it today (what a wonderful 2 and a half minutes).  As I was listening to it, I was praying “OK God she loves BSB, I am a fan, now I’m listening to this song, how are You going to use this?”  Some of the lyrics of the song are:

“In Christ Alone, I place my trust, And find my glory in the power of the cross.  In every victory, let it be said of me, My source of strength, My source of hope, is Christ alone.”

So after I listened to it, Giovanna and Chiara (the other friend) asked me “So can you tell us what this song means?”  Can we say amazing opportunity?!  I explained to them what it meant to me, that my sole source of trust, hope, and strength is found in Christ alone.  This led into more discussion of the Gospel and was just a really neat way to relate the Gospel to them, all through a good ol’ Backstreet Boy.  I am def glad Brian decided to go the Christian music route!  Now I am just waiting for an NSYNC discussion…
